Also known as molokhia. Grown for its edible leafy green leaves although the stem is what we know as jute. Wonderful crop for the summer vegetable garden. Will take the heat and has very little if any pests. The leaves have a mucilaginous texture to them similiar to okra so if that's not your thing some of the other summer greens may be a better fit for you. It grows into a large shrub so give it plenty of room. Will die back in fall as the days shorten.
