The plant occurs naturally in flatwoods, sandhills, upland mixed woodlands, and wet prairies. Its small lavender pink flowers typically bloom summer through fall and attract a variety of pollinators, especially native bees. Elephant's foot can take shade to full sun and slightly moist to very dry, sandy soils.
