This is a traditional Asian leafy green that has red stems and green leaves. You can se the tender stem tips or harvest individual leaves for raw or cooked purposes. The leaves do have a mucilaginous texture similiar to okra so if that isn't your thing then some of the other summer leafy greens may be a better fit. Loves to climb so provide a trellis, the red stems and pretty flowers make it very attractive on fences or at the garden gate. The berries are also used as a food dye and for making paint pigments. Self-sows readily.
