Fennel is for more than French cooking. It is also medicinal and a tea helps aid digestion, increase milk production in nursing mothers, and is also good for coughs. The kids in my school gardens consistently surprise me by devouring the leaves off the plant, enjoying the naturally sweet black licorice taste. Host plant for swallowtail butterflies. It's a weak biennial.
