Summer squash are not the easiest to grow here but Cocozelle fills the niche of a "traditional" summer squash with long green and white striped fruit with fantastic flavor. This is similiar to Costata Romanesco but is more compact, making it better suited to container growing. If you are willing to wrap the stem for squash vine borer and monitor for powdery mildew and squash bugs you will find yourself with a good harvest. If you are looking for an easier option, I love planting luffa instead. When picked young they make a fantastic squash substitute (though the plants do take up a lot more room).
