Costata Romanesca Squash

Summer squash are not the easiest to grow here but Costata Romanesca fills the niche of a "traditional" summer squash with long green and white striped fruit with fantastic flavor. This is similiar to Cocozelle but is more of a larger sprawling vine type plant, making it better suited to raised bed growing. If you are willing to wrap the stem for squash vine borer and monitor for powdery mildew and squash bugs you will find yourself with a good harvest. If you are looking for an easier option, I love planting luffa instead. When picked young they make a fantastic squash substitute (though the plants do take up a lot more room).
