This sunflower species prefers marshy bottomland areas. It is typically found around lakes and marshes. It is a perfect plant for a wet spot in a butterfly garden, or anywhere that may hold moisture. Unlike others of its kind, it does not prolifically self-seed, new seeds seeming to stay close to the mother plant. It prefers full sun to shade, and can reach up to 3ft tall.
