Summer squash are not the easiest to grow here but this yellow straight neck fills the niche of a "traditional" summer squash with long yellow fruit. Yellow squash tend to be a bit hardier than zucchini types but will still need extra attention for a successful harvest. If you are willing to wrap the stem for squash vine borer and monitor for powdery mildew and squash bugs you will find yourself with a good harvest. If you are looking for an easier option, I love planting luffa instead. When picked young they make a fantastic squash substitute (though the plants do take up a lot more room).
