South Anna Butternut Squash

Heirloom squash cultivated in the South for excellent downy mildew resistance. Edmund Frost developed South Anna from a cross between Seminole Pumpkin and Waltham Butternut. Similar growth habit to Seminole pumpkin with more of an elongated neck like the butternut. Vines are massive and can sprawl up to 15'. Allow to run along the ground so that it can root along the length of its stem, making it more pest and disease resistant. I have found most winter squash to set more fruit if you hand pollinate but its not required and they will fruit fine as long as pollinators are in the area.
